Description

This report presents the results of individual monitoring efforts carried out by scientists across Malaysia and details the extent of coral bleaching and the short-term outcomes (i.e., 4 months) of the record-breaking 2024 coral bleaching event. Data from belt transects, photo‑quadrats, and video transect are analysed to assess bleaching incidence and short-term (i.e., four months) mortality following the peak heat stress period. Monitoring data on coral bleaching incidence and mortality was collected across 24 sites in four Malaysian regions: northeastern Peninsular Malaysia (i.e., the Terengganu Island archipelago), southeastern Peninsular Malaysia (i.e., Pulau Tioman and Pulau Besar), east and west Sabah.
