How to Be a Citizen Scientist as a Tourist in Perhentian Islands

You can be a citizen scientist while on holiday in the Perhentian Islands!

Conservation and community groups in the Perhentian Islands run several marine conservation initiatives. These seek to improve management of the Marine Park, as well as support marine research in Perhentian.

Data and observation reports from tourists are welcome! They can be as easy as submitting photos from your snorkelling camera, or uploading them to iNaturalist for species identification. Contribute to citizen science in Perhentian!

If you love taking photos while snorkelling or scuba diving, learn how you can help Perhentian's conservation projects with your images.

In addition, you can help Anak Pulau carry out their community stewardship activities by reporting ghost nets or animals in distress so that they can respond.

HELP ANAK PULAU

Anak Pulau is Perhentian’s local community group. They support the work of Marine Park authorities to manage the marine park area. They may be the first responders to remove ghost nets and rescue animals in distress, and share marine park violations to the authorities. Learn more about what they need to know and how tourists can help.
