Perhentian Marine Park

Volunteer for Turtle Conservation with Perhentian Turtle Project

Connecting People with Nature

Perhentian Turtle Project is a sea turtle research and conservation initiative under Fuze Ecoteer Outdoor Adventures Sdn. Bhd., an accredited social enterprise.

Our work in the Perhentian Islands includes sea turtle population surveys, nightly beach patrols, stranding responses and awareness activities.

We can't do it without you! Volunteers play a pivotal role in the continuation of Perhentian Turtle Project (PTP).

You will become part of the PTP team and help us collect data on foraging and nesting turtles via kayaks and beach night patrols whilst experiencing the cultural (e.g. Malay dinners) and marine (e.g. eco-snorkel tours) side of things.

Our project site is Pantai Tiga Ruang, famously known as Turtle Beach. We do our night patrols there, assisting the Department of Fisheries rangers with nesting sea turtle mothers and other hatchery activities.

PERHENTIAN TURTLE PROJECT

Why choose this project?

Snorkel in the sea by day observing and taking photo IDs of foraging sea turtles. At night, you will patrol the nesting beach under a blanket of stars.

Our project offers both the social and environmental aspects in conservation. We live among the local community and work with them as we carry out our activities.

Send us your Perhentian turtle pics!

Sea turtles have unique facial scale shape and colour patterns. By compiling photos of sea turtles, as well as comparing and contrasting facial scale patterns, we can determine the population of individuals which frequent the Perhentian Islands.

You can help us through our #PenyuWarrior Citizen Science Initiative by sharing your turtle photos. Learn more about how to take turtle ID photos and send them to us on Facebook or Instagram. If you found one we don't know, you can name the turtle!
