Introducing Redang & Lang Tengah Marine Park

Redang Island is the oldest of the peninsular Malaysia Marine Parks. It is a tourism favourite for its glassy water, and gorgeous beaches separated by forest. Together with the lesser-known Lang Tengah Marine Park, there are many beach resorts to choose from. 

Beyond its dreamy beaches, the coastline includes a mix of sheltered areas and coral reef, as well as more exposed sites where scuba divers can encounter pelagic schooling fishes.

Island getaways to support conservation in Redang

The beaches of the Redang cluster are shared with a significant turtle population, which return to nest every year. Come for a beach holiday, or join a conservation project - maybe both!

Turtle nesting season
Green and hawksbill turtles arrive to lay eggs on the beaches, mainly at Redang's Chagar Hutang beach as well as Pasir Tok Enjut in Lang Tengah. Both are turtle sanctuaries. Volunteers relocate nests laid elsewhere to the protected beaches, and carry out night patrols to deter poaching until the hatchlings emerge.

The monsoon season ends and the islands are open for tourism. The best weather occurs between April and August, with the earlier and later months considered to be the shoulder season. The islands receive many tourists every year. Be mindful of the marine park rules to ensure that tourism remains sustainable.

Diving season
With the fading of the monsoon season, the sea is calmer with a return of good visibility conditions. This is the best period for water activities. Apart from recreational diving, divers can also join coral planting activities in Lang Tengah.
