The Marine Park overview & history
Located on the North-Eastern Coast of Malaysia in the South China Sea, Perhentian islands literally meaning ‘stopover island’ in Malay, was once a strategic layover for early traders. Consisting of Pulau Pulau Besar (big island), Pulau Kecil (small island) and several uninhabited islands, the Perhentian Archipelago is known for its jungle-covered island, white sandy beaches, pellucid turquoise waters and a colorful and bustling city underwater.
Pulau Perhentian Kecil is a favorite among backpackers and travelers looking for party vibes at Long Beach. The local villagers also reside on the smaller island in a village called Kampung Pasir Hantu. Pulau Perhentian Besar, deliberately less developed, is ideal for families, honeymooners, and those seeking a more peaceful, nature-filled retreat. Yet, most of us come to the Perhentians with one goal in mind—to explore the breathtaking South China Sea
